Raw Benefits for Diabetics

When I stated to try and change my eating, my intention was to eat more raw food than I have been. I just read a repot in The Feb.2008 readers digest that talks about a new movie coming out called Raw for 30 days. In the movie, Diabetics eat a raw vegan lifestyle for 30 days, lose an average of 25 pounds and are able to go off insulin. This is because their bodies become alkaline in the process of this kind of eating. Which is another reason that I recommend alkaline water to everyone. I'm trying hard to get the guts to commit to 30 full days of raw only eating. Honestly it isn't as bad as it sounds, were not just talking celery and carrot sticks. The recipes I've found have been top notch in flavor and I've created some of my own in the recipe page at Healing Water Machines I think the reason that I haven't made the full commitment is because... I like to eat out a lot. I get tempted easily. I need a quick food plan to be able to start. My husband isn't cooperating and that could be a big problem. Excuses, excuses! I'm listening to some Tony Robbins tapes that are really encouraging me to look at my excuses/reasons and find a way to seriously over come them. I'm working on it.

pH scale for alkaline water consumption

For viewers not familiar with pH scales, pure acid is pH 0. Neutral (neither acid nor alkaline) is pH 7. Pure alkaline is pH 14. pH 7 is ten times more alkaline than pH 6. pH 8 is 100 times more alkaline than pH 6 pH 9 is 1,000 times ore alkaline than pH 6 For a little perspective, a well known cola is pH 2.5, meaning it is over 10,000 times more acid than neutral tap water, and 100,000 times more acid than your blood (pH 7.4) The Jupiter Ionizers from produce alkaline water in the range of pH 7.5 up to pH 11, depending on the setting you choose.

Boning Up on Osteoporosis

When we eat beef, pork, lamb, chicken, or other foods from animals, our bodies take in proteins that may be rich in sulfur. That's unlike the proteins in plant foods—fruits, veggies, nuts, grains, or legumes like peas or dry beans. As we digest animal proteins, the sulfur in them forms acid. A slight, temporary acid overload—called acidosis—may result.

To regain our natural balance of acidity to alkalinity, or pH, in the bloodstream, our bodies must buffer the influx of acid. One possible buffer is calcium phosphate, which the body canborrow from our bones—the body's main storage depot for this essential mineral.
Though calcium phosphate is an effective buffer and neutralizer, taking it from bones might increase our risk of osteoporosis. This unhealthy increase in the porosity of bones, and resultant thinning, leaves those afflicted with this disease especially vulnerable to fractures of the spine, hips, and wrists.

Estimates from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) indicate that 10 million Americans, mainly women, already suffer from this disease. Another 28 million Americans are at risk. The truth about water contamination

Clean drinking water is something that the public has pretty much taken for granted for the past hundred years. The public has little idea--perhaps understandably--just how contaminated our drinking water has become. Our environment has changed, new biological transformations are emerging, drinking- water systems are aging, and governments seem more interested in ensuring business in the global marketplace than in ensuring the safety and health of the world citizens.

Acid rain corrodes copper, lead, and galvanized pipes. There are hundreds of agricultural pollutants,including pesticides and fertilizer, industrial pollutants including plasticizers, solvents, and propellants; along with chemicals added to aid in the coagulation of water can be of great concern to water pollution.

A National Assessment of Tap Water Quality found 260 contaminants in our nation's tap water; 141of these contaminants have no enforceable safety limits. Of the 141 unregulated contaminants utilitiesdetected in water supplies between 1998 and 2003, 52 are linked to cancer, 41 to reproductive toxicity,36 to developmental toxicity, and 16 to immune system damage, according to chemical listings in sevenstandard government and industry toxicity references. Despite the potential health risks, any concentrationof these chemicals in tap water is legal, no matter how high.

What follows is a very long article detailing all types of water contaminates. The EPA's own scientists have identified 600 chemicals in tap water formed as by-products of disinfections--they tracked 220 million pounds of 650 industrial chemicals discharged to riversand streams annually. They also spearheaded research on emerging contaminants after the U.S. GeologicalSurvey found: 82 unregulated pharmaceuticals, hormones, medications, and residues of consumer products in rivers and streams across the country.Intensive use of highly acidic antibiotics in human and veterinarian medicine and in industrial farming(food additives) has resulted in the transport of significant quantities of the active ingredientsto environmental waters. All told, EPA has set safety standards for fewer than 20 percent of themany hundreds of chemicals that it has identified in our drinking water.

Hot Water Can Leach Lead into Your Body

Hot water from the tap should never be used for cooking or drinking unless using a lead removal pre-filter. The reason is that hot water dissolves contaminants more quickly than cold water, and many pipes in homes contain lead that can leach into water. And lead can damage the brain and nervous system, especially in young children. Lead is rarely found in source water, but can enter it through corroded plumbing. The Environmental Protection Agency says that older homes are more likely to have lead pipes and fixtures, but that even newer plumbing advertised as lead-free can still contain as much as 8 percent lead. A study published in The Journal of Environmental Health in 2002 found that tap water represented 14 to 20 percent of total lead exposure. The E.P.A. says cold tap water should always be used for preparing baby formula, cooking and drinking. It also warns that boiling water does not remove lead but can actually increase its concentration. One can also easily and inexpensively install a under-sink lead removal pre-filter.
